About ICSF
ICSF replicates social impact ventures to scale. Today, the social sector faces two key issues: successfully scaling proven social impact projects, and efficiently using scarce resources. The International Centre for Social Franchising (ICSF) is a non-profit that specializes in scaling social impact organizations and projects via replication.

Our Vision: Social solutions spread to match the size of social problems

Our Mission: Replicate successful social impact solutions to scale

Our Impact Goal: Assist 10 social solutions to replicate in 4 years

We know organizations delivering community-transforming work can spend a lot of time and precious resources finding, and applying, the right solutions. Many are reinventing the wheel. Our role is to streamline this process, helping organizations get replication right the first time. Using a combination of successful and tested commercial and social principles while drawing on key expertise, we help organizations design and deliver the right solutions to specific social problems on a larger scale.

Dan Berelowitz with Michael Norton founded ICSF in 2011. There are 8 staff and a number of associates. Offices were opened in San Francisco and Melbourne in 2014. Together, we have decades of experience working on scale, sustainability, innovation, strategy and investment projects across a multitude of sector.

How we work
ICSF works with partners to scale up the world’s best social solutions - to end the world’s greatest social needs. We help them achieve the change they aspire to. Sounds big? It is. We believe impact is what’s needed and that proven social projects must operate at a much greater scale to achieve significant transformational change.

We work with pioneers from the private, public and social sector to replicate their proven social projects to scale.

We know that social change makers and innovators will have more meaningful impact by building on what already works, rather than constantly reinventing the wheel. So we only work with people who want to scale, and who can scale.

Examples of ICSF’s work
• Creating a Replication Accelerator with the Bertha Centre at the University of Cape Town and Rockefeller Foundation in South Africa
• Creating an agriculture social franchise in rural Senegal
• Introducing Social and Micro franchising to the Egyptian market
• Rolling out health social franchises with Population Services International (PSI) in Asia, Africa and Central America
• Research for the Big Lottery Fund assesses the potential for social replication in the UK
• Research for GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Merck, Save the Children and others into the potential for replicable primary healthcare delivery models with significant social benefit in the developing world
