Seeking Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary
We are a small but fast paced law firm specializing in Plaintiff’s side personal injury and civil rights cases. We are seeking a professional, organized, and competent legal secretary or legal assistant to assist us with court filings, calendaring, and office administration. The ideal candidate has a proactive work ethic, the ability to anticipate needs, strong decision making skills, as well as attention to detail. The position is part-time, without benefits, 25-30 hours per week depending upon availability. Salary is based upon experience.
The ability to work core business hours of 9:00 am - 5:00 pm with flexibility for overtime, as needed. Must have 2 years of recent legal secretarial/legal assistant experience in the litigation area. Advanced proficiency in MS Word and formatting documents with a minimum typing speed of 40+ words per minute required. Adobe, PowerPoint and Excel experience are also strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions include those set forth below. Other duties may be assigned. Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
Uses word processing and document management software (Microsoft Office 2010, including Excel, Google Workshare Drive, Google Calendar, Adobe etc.) to prepare and revise, format and finalize a wide variety of documents, including correspondence, memoranda, discovery responses, discovery requests, and legal materials. In conjunction with the preparation of such documents, the Legal Secretary is responsible for proofreading, correctly formatting and questioning any inconsistencies in all materials.
Screening telephone calls; schedules conference calls; coordinates and schedules travel arrangements through web-based application; maintains attorney/legal assistant calendars.
Exhibits professionalism by recognizing and adhering to firm policies, including attendance guidelines, security measures, and confidentiality requirements. Maintains positive, professional, courteous and flexible demeanor when dealing with clients and colleagues. Ability to be courteous and professional while interacting via telephone with court staff on a daily basis. Able to adapt to fast paced work environment.
