Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation – San Carlos, CA is looking for a strong candidate to take-on the Major Gift Officer (MGO) position.

Founded in 2006, the Addario Lung Cancer Foundation’s (ALCF) 10-year goal is to transform lung cancer into a chronically managed disease and ultimately to find a cure. We do this by empowering and educating patients, funding cutting-edge research, building strategic collaborations, and raising public awareness.

The Addario Lung Cancer Medical Institute (ALCMI) is a partner organization to the ALCF and isengaged in developing and delivering studies and trials across its collaborative network of academic institutions in the U.S. and Europe.

The Major Gift Officer will report to:
the Associate Executive Director of Partnerships and Development (AED), and will be responsible for working with ALCF and ALCMI leadership to develop strategies and proposals to secure major gifts and for the effective, professional representation of both organizations to donors and prospects.

The Major Gift Officer is responsible for:
identification, evaluation, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of Individuals, Corporations, and Foundations capable of contributing annual gifts of $25,000+ during a development cycle of no more than 24 months to enhance the sustainability of the organization’s patient services, research and awareness programs.

This position will also be responsible for the following, but not limited to*:
• Meet quarterly and annual fundraising goals as determined by the AED of Partnerships and Development.
• Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards major donors and prospects.
• Conduct a minimum of 10 donor visits monthly, and provide visits and gift tracking data to the AED of Partnerships and Development.
• Work with leadership, board and development team to identify other potential major gift prospects and build the pipeline of future donors.
• Prepare proposals, solicitation letters, cultivation materials and stewardship information for major gift donors and prospects.
• Engage key major gift prospects and volunteers in Foundation events and activities as appropriate.
• Travel as appropriate to meet with prospects and donors.

• 5+ years of professional experience in the development field with a with a track record of successful major gift solicitations in the $25,000+ donor category.
• Must be highly goal-oriented, organized, entrepreneurial and knowledgeable about annual giving techniques, particularly electronic and direct mail.
• Must have the ability to work independently as well as a member of a close-knit team.
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills required.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and managerial capabilities.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks also required. Operational flexibility to meet sudden and unpredictable business needs.
• Ability to exercise significant judgment and confidentiality in working with prospects, volunteers, and ALCF and ALCMI leadership and staff.
• Possess mid-level or higher knowledge of planned giving.
• Knowledge of planned giving, endowments and donor directed funds.
• Experience in a cancer or health related non-profit organization or institution of higher education preferred.
• Capital campaign experience is preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree and a CAE preferred.
